The Institute of Steel Construction stands for proven competence in answering current and future questions in steel construction. The current focus is on fatigue and service life determination, additive manufacturing, material behavior under very high strain rate, lightweight construction systems, silo construction, structure maintenance and wind engineering. The institute is and haas been involved in various collaborative research centers as well as national and international research training groups.

Over 20 employees work in the scientific area and in the experimental laboratory. These include technical and commercial trainees, some of them with severe disabilities.

The experimental laboratory offers comprehensive services. In addition to large-scale experiments on the strong floor, experiments can be carried out in the resonance pulser, in the rapid rupture plant, in the boundary layer wind tunnel and in many other test rigs.
