The Institute of Steel Structures is an institution of proven research competence to search for answers to current and future questions. The current research focus on component safety, material behavior under cyclic and impact loading, lightweight structures and silo constructions, supplemented with studies on structure preservation and wind engineering. The research on additive manufacture is emerging.

Basic research forms the fundament for the development and extension of models used to describe global and local behavior of components. The Institute of Steel Structures devotes to the transformation of the acquired basic knowledge into the application-oriented research and practice.
